troubleshooting on the roadFurther to our general Troubleshooting page we have also prepared a page to help you whilst out on the road. Many people have problems with their cars whilst driving which can make driving almost impossible. The following article is some information to help you prevent for any emergencies occurring whilst you are driving.

Whilst driving, the steering seems to shake

This is a common problem with cars that is often caused by general wear and tear. Over time the brake rotor can begin to warp which affects the steering. Alternatively it could simply be that the brake pads have worn down. This causes the metal from the pads to rub against the metal on the disk brake rotor, causing cuts in the metal of the rotor’s surface.

To solve this problem you need to discover where the fault lies. Remove a wheel on the side which seems most affected and then remove the calliper. You will be able to get an unobstructed view of the brake pads from which you should be able to tell if they are in good condition. If they are in good condition then the problem is probably with the rotor. If the brake pads are worn down then replacing them should solve the problem. Otherwise the rotor will need to be repaired at a garage.

My car over heats easily when I'm driving

troubleshooting on the roadWith a situation like this you firstly need to check the levels of anti-freeze and water mixture in the radiator. When you have opened the radiator cap you should be able to see the level of water inside the radiator. If not then there's not enough in it. Next, check for any leaks in the system which can be identified by fluid leaking onto the floor. If you do find a leak you should take your car to a garage to see where exactly it is coming from in the system. IF you have ruled out a leak or lack of coolant and water as the problem then it could be to do with the airflow and flow of coolant. If there is a kink in one of the radiator hoses it will restrict the flow of coolant at high speeds and as it needs more for traveling at high speeds it can cause the engine to over heat.
